Fragmentation can degrade the performance of your computer. This naturally occurs with general use.  As files on your hard drive become fragmented, they grow further apart and it takes longer for your computer to find and assemble all the pieces necessary.  Defragmenting the files on your hard drive so they are serialized in order, cuts down on file access latency.

1. Click on "Start" button.

2. Click on All Programs.

3. Click on Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

4. Select Volume to Defragment and then  click Defragment button.

5. This will take approximately an hour to complete.

6. Defragmenter has completed.  Click on Close button.
