1. Locate the multi-colored square box located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.  Right click on the Antivirus icon.

2.  From the pop up menu, click  on the menu option “Open AVG User Interface”.

3. Click the “Update Now” button.

4. AVG will go through a process to update itself. This may take a few minutes to complete. Once it has completed you will see a message stating that the “Update was finished successfully”. When you see this message, click on “Computer Scanner” in the column on the left hand side.

5. You will see a screen with options to “Scan for threats”. Click on “Scan Whole Computer” button to begin a virus scan of your computer.

6. A virus scan will begin. This process may take up to several hours to complete. To speed up the process drag the slider at the bottom of the screen to the far right to change the scan mode from “Automatic Scan” to “Quick Scan”. This will speed up the scanning process.

7. Once the scan is completed you will see the “Scan results”. Ensure that you see a message stating “No infection was found during this scan”. This message indicates that no viruses’ were found on your computer.
